Campaign for Container Deposit Legislation in New Zealand

Many people recall with affection the days when most beverage containers had refundable deposits and they made their first pocket money from redeeming the deposits at the local dairy or joined in a ‘bottle drive’ to raise funds for the scouts, girl guides or other community group.

There are growing calls for the introduction of mandatory CDL (Container Deposit Legislation) in New Zealand, because of its success at diverting beverage containers from landfill, new job creation and because of its potential to provide an alternative, sustainable funding source for community organizations.

Over the last year a number of New Zealand community recycling organisations, community groups and NGO's have been behind a national campaign to do just that- make CDL mandatory in Aotearoa.
